Keep Your Kitchen Clean

accord kitchenSo your holiday gathering left your kitchen in a less than ideal state of cleanliness. It is crucial to clean this area of the house as there are abundant food particles here that make it the perfect place for microorganism to live and reproduce. Having a dirty kitchen could lead to a lot of diseases, some of which are categorized as life threatening. In cleaning, it is important that the kitchen is cleaned thoroughly and accordingly at all times. It is advisable to clean each and every item after being used because the longer they stay dirty, the more chances for them to harbor microorganisms.

In cleaning, choose the appropriate cleaning agent that enables elimination of bacteria and other harmful microorganisms. It is appropriate to clean counters, table, and shelves as much as needed. Avoid keeping unnecessary containers on counters and shelves to lessen the difficulty and effort during cleaning. Stoves should always be cleaned regularly and should be maintained safe and clean as much as possible.

Most kitchens have garbage bin in it which should be regularly cleaned and properly disposed. Always avoid using sponges as much as possible for this material is among the perfect hiding places for harmful microorganisms. If you prefer the use of sponge for cleaning plates, counters and tables ,you should at least microwave it in a bowl with water to disinfect and remove harmful microorganisms. Cleaning is the best way to keep home inhabitants safe from common yet still harmful microorganisms.

Why It Is Important to Keep a Clean Workspace

accord cleaning bucketWhen we hear the phrase “spring cleaning” we often think of clearing out the clutter in our homes.

Cleaning out closets and dusting hard to reach areas. An annual deep cleaning can be just as beneficial for your workplace, an area a large majority of people spend almost 40% of their time. When you clean and improve the workplace environment you engage the workforce, improve their productivity, their loyalty and their retention, which improves your profitability.

Below we have shared some simple ways you can ‘spring clean’ your workspace, both personal space and shared areas to promote better health and productivity in the workplace.

  • Discard and de-clutter to eliminate chaos – file it, store it, organize it or get rid of it – hallways and walkways are not storage areas where stacks of boxes should be stored
  • Scrub floors, shampoo carpeting and paint walls a calm color – cleanliness makes everyone feel better about being there eight hours or more per day
  • Check all equipment to make sure it is working properly, and fix anything that needs to be repaired or replaced – the workforce will be more efficient
  • Make sure workstations and regularly used supplies are in close proximity, so less time is lost and efficiency increases
  • Encourage employees to maintain their workspace and desktop as a “clutter free zone”
  • Together make a list of all of the other things that can be done in the workplace to make it a more pleasant place to work

A green, organized and clutter-free office goes beyond aesthetics and can actually help clear the mind, improve health and increase productivity among employees. Thus, implementing a spring cleaning program – even a simple one – can help prevent illnesses at the office and reduce absenteeism in the workplace. Of course, let the cleaning professionals take care of the deep cleaning tasks with environmentally safe products and efficient cleaning tools for larger areas.

Keep the Flu/Cold at Bay!

accord keep flu at bayBelieve it or not, your work environment can have an enormous effect on your health. To aid you in your annual struggle against the flu, Accord Building Services has put together this list of ways to keep your office healthy and germ free.

Make sure to keep your hands clean when interacting with others, while eating, and after using the restroom. Keep bottles of dispensable hand sanitizer in common areas (receptionist desk, bathrooms, eating areas, conference rooms, etc.) and wash your hands before you eat.

Many companies choose to ramp up their cleaning services during the cold and flu season. Cleaning more often this time of year helps keep surfaces clean and germ free.

This of time the air can get stale quickly. Keep an oscillating fan on a low setting to avoid overly damp or stagnant air, where germs thrive.

Computer keyboards can actually be one of the most germ infested regions of your office. It is necessary to protect yourself and others by cleaning your keyboard as often as you can, using sanitizing wipes or specified keyboard cleaner.

Should you find yourself coming down with something, you, yourself have an obligation to keep the germs from spreading further. Many are adamant about continuing to work through an illness, but this is a dangerous attitude to have. If you feel sick enough to be contagious, or you think the day’s productivity will be affected by your sickness, it’d be best if you stayed on home.

But perhaps the best thing you can do to avoid illness this cold and flu season is to take care of yourself mentally. The link between stress and illness has long been a topic of study for many academics. It has been shown that high stress can leave you susceptible to illness. Do what you can to avoid stress: think positively, exercise, and stay productive!

Changing of the Seasons…

As we begin a new season, it is a great time to start thinking of a new cleaning strategy. Many facilities transfer from conventional to green cleaning programs when seasons change and the winter months can be a perfect time to transition to proven green cleaning chemicals.
There are other things to keep in mind as we transition into a new weather pattern.
Some floor care chemicals, as an example, are best applied at certain temperature ranges. This is also the time to make sure you have proper mats in your entry ways. Install 15 feet of matting inside each entrance to capture ice melt, salt and sand before it is tracked throughout your building.

Many buildings delay cleaning carpets before and during the winter months. This can be a mistake as the carpets can become saturated with contaminants and impact indoor environmental quality. Thoroughly cleaning carpets before winter can help keep them clean throughout the cold winter months.

It’s no secret that floors take a beating during adverse weather conditions. You will want to be sure your cleaners have scrubbed entry floors to remove soils and then recoat them to give the floor added protection. Cleaning along with burnishing cycles may need to be increased during these months as well.
